The following are just a few samples from sites on which I worked or which I was involved in, dating back to 2004-2007. As much as anything, these exemplify the quality of SEO people I worked with, too, as well as any skills I have attained.

TheSolarGuide.com

Case: highly searched term - one of the most expensive products in a solar power system. I created all the original content for this site and served as its editor for over a year.

Result: search for "solar panels" in Google.com and thesolarguide.com is number 13 out of 1.3 million sites.

  • searches per month: 10,000 to 80,000 (seasonal variance)
  • number of pages in Google: 1.3 million
  • ranking in google.com: 13

Factors that contributed to success: strong content focused on informing the user, appropriate content for all meta tags, age of the site, quality of the design, a gap in this market in terms of site quality.

LuxuryWatches101.com

Case: highly competitive term - many people looking for the kind of variety you can only find on the internet. I created all the original content for this site and served as the site editor for over a year.

Result: search for "luxury watches" in Google.com and luxurywatches101.com is number 1 out of 1.6 million sites.

  • searches per month: 15,000 (i.e. discerning market)
  • number of pages in Google: 1.6 million
  • ranking in google.com: 1

Factors: strong content aimed at giving the user relevant information, appropriate content for all meta tags, age of the site, quality of the design, a gap in this market in terms of breadth of content.

CosmeticSurgeryInsider.Net / PlasticSurgeons.com

Case: very competitive term - many people looking for information on the 'net and many doctors and clinics willing to pay money in order to rank well. I did not work on this site but I proposed it and lead all initial research, knowing that there was a gap in the market.

Result: search for "cosmetic surgery" or "plastic surgery" in Yahoo.com and this site should turn up on page one, as of February, 2007.

  • searches per month: 115,000
  • number of pages in Google: 9.9 million
  • ranking in yahoo.com: page one

Factors that contributed to success: strong content focused on informing the user, appropriate content for all meta tags, age of the site, quality of the design, a gap in this market in terms of site quality.

These are just a few of many, many pages that rank very well (page one or two in Google). Some other cases:

  • Google "online learning" in Canada, and onlinelearning101.com is on page two.
  • Google "wheel chairs". Thewheelchairsite.com, (featuring a column by my niece, too) is #1.
  • Google "gourmet foods". Gourmetfoods101.com shows up on page two.
