This is actually a quote from heroic Canadian rock and roll artist Gord Downie. We were at our sixth Tragically Hip concert, on the beach at Wassaga Beach. This was an absolute peak experience in my life, enhanced of course by some weed. But Gord Downie, an astonishing sunset over Georgian Bay, the sand between my toes? I was in my paradise.
About halfway through, someone got kicked out for fighting. The security ushered him out, if you noticed. Gord capped the moment by sharing predictably inspired Gordian wisdom. “There’s only one rule here and that’s don’t lie to yourself.”
Think about the power of that, though. Don’t ever lie to yourself. And if you catch yourself lying to yourself, stop it. For your sake.
